CubeSats…is there nothing they can’t do?

They’re being considered for a future Europa mission.

Proposals were accepted from 10 universities:

  • Arizona State University, Tempe
  • Georgia Tech Research Corporation, Atlanta
  • Stanford University, Stanford, California
  • The Regents of New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico
  • The Regents of the University of Colorado, Boulder
  • The Regents of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
  • University of Alaska, Fairbanks
  • University of Southern California, Los Angeles
  • University of Illinois, Urbana
  • University of Washington, Seattle

Each will receive up to $25K to develop their proposals.

The universities’ Europa science objectives for their CubeSats would include reconnaissance for future landing sites, gravity fields, magnetic fields, atmospheric and plume science, and radiation measurements.

Pretty freakin’ cool! I wonder if they’ll discover this:
