USS Anchorage (LPD-23) set to recover EFT-1 upon spashdown

As an old gator sailor myself, I approve of NASA’s choice of recovery. Instead of lifting the capsule from the water via helicopter and landing on a flight deck, they’re going to stabilize the Orion capsule in the water, and then tow into the the USS Anchorage’s well deck, put it up on blocks, and then drain the well deck.

The advantage of this approach is that a much bigger capsule can be recovered using the well-deck approach. It also keeps the capsule hidden from view if so desired. I am insanely jealous of those sailors! They’ll get to see Orion up close an personal just by walking down to the well deck.
