3D printing in Space — hurdles and potentials

This article takes a pretty comprehensive look at 3D printing in space.

Potential benefits:

  • Creating replacement components in space
  • Recycling in space
  • Creating structures difficult to produce on or transport from Earth
  • Creating sensors, sensor systems, and satellites
  • Freeflying “Fablab”
  • Fully printed spacecraft
  • Use of resources on planetary surfaces

These are listed in roughly an easiest-to-hardest order.

Technological issues identified:

As the man says, “read the whole thing.”
