Opportunity flash reboot unsuccessful

They’re able to work in a kludge mode while developing a better workaround. One whole bank of flash memory is dead, so the workaround is to reprogram the rover to store data only in the good flash memory. As it is, if data is not transmitted off the rover each day before it goes to sleep, that data is lost.

Sure would hate to see Opportunity die, but even if it dies completely today, it is one of the most successful NASA exploration programs ever.
