Russia to build a new space telescope

Millimetron radio telescope will observe signals from 0,3 to 17 millimeters, which should allow better study of black holes and dark matter.

It’ll have a 12 meter dish, and will operate either at the Earth-Moon L2 point, or have an elliptical orbit of 70000-300000 km.

This October’s “New Scientist” reported on China’s remotely operated 15-cm aperture UV lunar telescope (aboard the Chang’e 3 lander) having been in operation since 2013 ( https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn28323-china-has-had-a-telescope-on-the-moon-for-the-past-two-years/ ). A much more technical paper titled “8-Months Operation of Lunar-based Ultraviolet Telescope: A Highly Stable Photometric Performance” can be downloaded in full from the Cornell U. Library Astrophysics archive at http://arxiv.org/abs/1510.01435 (PDF & other formats selectable in upper-right corner of the abstract page).
