Saturn’s moon Enceladus vs Jupiter’s Ganymede

Icy-Moon Discoveries: What They Mean for Alien Life Search. I, of course, have a certain soft spot for Ganymede, which plays a central role in Ships & Stones. Enceladus, though, seems to have a much higher chance of harboring life, even though both moons have large liquid subsurface oceans.

Ganymede’s ocean is so deep that its pressure is likely too high to have hydrothermal vents, whereas Enceladus has been witnessed to vent off water vapor through its ice. That’s cool, though — in my book I’m agnostic on the subject of life on Ganymede.
