2015 NASA Human-powered Rover Challenge

All of them (at least as shown in the video) are variations of the same theme…4 wheeled bike-cart. Most of our rovers are 6-wheeled, so I wonder why no one tried that? Granted, that would make the drive train more complicated, but if one could build a gear shifter that could shift the power from one pair of wheels to the other (better yet, add a slip differential), it seems to me that most of the obstacles could have been overcome (maybe at the price of overall speed).

Or how about a tracked rover?
