EM Drive verified in the lab in hard vacuum

Evaluating NASA’s Futuristic EM Drive. This is interesting…propellant-less drive that uses…well, they’re not exactly sure how it works. They *think* that Quantum Vacuum might be acting like a propellant under the conditions that the EM Drive provide.

This could be a BIG deal — the article estimates that if a GEO satellite’s propellant and thrust system were replaced with an EM Drive, the satellite’s mass will be reduced by about 60%, plus it would only have to be launched to LEO (not to Geo Transfer Orbit), and the satellite could propel itself up to GEO. Reducing mass and launch perigee would significantly reduce launch costs.

It would also allow satellites to stay on orbit for years longer than they currently do.

The article proposes scaling up the EM Drive for human transport, providing such benefits as 70 day transits to Mars, but I’ll believe that when I see it.
