Orbital ATK’s Antares will launch March 2016

Orbital ATK’s New Antares on Track for March 2016 Launch. Good news for NASA and Orbital ATK.

There’s still some disagreement as to the cause:

Reports in the trade press indicate that Orbital ATK and Aerojet Rocketdyne disagree on the root cause. While both reportedly agree that worn turbopump bearings were to blame, the question is why they were worn. Aerojet Rocketdyne believes debris in the fuel was sucked into the engine from the first stage fuel tanks, which are manufactured by Ukraine’s Yuzhmash.

Orbital ATK is going with the Russian RD-181 engines, to which they’d already decided to migrate before the Antares explosion back in October of last year. BTW, the repairs to the Wallops Island launch facility will be completed by September, which will be in time to support test firings of the new rocket configuration.
