The last, good look at Pluto’s far side

Last Portrait of Pluto’s Puzzling Spots. Because Pluto and Charon are tidally linked (like the Moon is with Earth, which is why we always see the same side of the Moon when looking at it), and since New Horizons is flying through Charon’s orbital plane because it is sure to be clear of debris, and because Charon will be on the far side of Pluto when New Horizons passes through, this is the best look of the Charon-side of Pluto we’ll get:

This picture was taken early yesterday morning.

Two days and counting to closest approach!
