I worked the ASA girl’s fastpitch 12U championship game

All last week I was umpiring at the ASA 12-and-under Girl’s Western National Championship fastpitch softball tournament. I was able to blog during most of the tournament in spite of 108 degree heat, but Saturday was championship day and I was too distracted to blog…

’cause I was working the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!! At a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP Tournament!! Think Little League World Series except for girl’s fastpitch. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to earn that game…I went into the tourney just hoping to learn from the experience since it was my first national tournament.

So yeah, I was a little distracted on Saturday. The Titan’s from Hawaii won the championship 8-0 over the DirtDogs from Central California. I was the first base umpire (3 umpires in the game), and really only had one close call at first which wasn’t even that close. I worked 16 games over the 4-day tournament, and the Championship game ended up being the easiest game I worked.

It is, so far, the highlight of my umpire career. I had the time of my life!!

Championship game was over about 9pm, and I drove home after that, getting home close to 4am. Went to Church, barely could keep my eyes open, and then slept most of the day yesterday. Now I’m back in the blogging saddle.

Thanks for your patience!
