I *guess* this is news…

Continuous habitation of ISS: 15 years from Expedition 1. Yesterday, 2 Nov, marked the 15th anniversary of the start of Expedition 1, the first day of 15 years of continuous manning of the ISS.

I mean, it’s cool and all, but the fact that this qualifies as news means that we aren’t space mariners yet — we’re still sailing within site of shore. I’ll get excited when we have multiple manned stations, a permanent presence on the Moon, a true Cislunar economy (or at least viable ISRU). Then, being in space won’t be news at all. It’ll be commonplace, which would indeed make it newsworthy compared to today’s snail’s pace of “exploration”.

Just sayin’…
